News, July 2016

Mandela Day takes place on the 18th of July each year. The day commemorates Nelson Mandela, the ex-president of South Africa, honouring his life’s work in changing the world for the better. The goal on the day is to do something positive for someone else for 67 minutes. The 67 minutes represent each year of service that Mandela gave to his country and the world. CREST staff took this opportunity to do some good and collected various “goodies” for the dogs and cats of the Animal Welfare Society Stellenbosch (AWSS). The AWSS is a non-profit organisation serving the Stellenbosch community and the greater Stellenbosch area by taking care of unwanted, mistreated and neglected pets. The AWSS also promotes cat and dog sterilisation to stop undesirable breeding in an already overpopulated pet community. As a “no-kill” shelter the AWSS relies heavily on donations to feed all of the hungry mouths.

The CREST team rallied together and collected dog/cat and puppy/kitten food, blankets to help out during the cold Stellenbosch winter months and also various other treats for the animals. The donations were handed over to the AWSS on Mandela Day. Some of the CREST staff could also not resist taking the opportunity to walk some of the beautiful dogs up for adoption.
