Opinion of Supervisors of Postgraduate Students on Doctoral Supervision Training in Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria
Capstone assignment abstract:

The study examined the opinion of supervisors of Postgraduates students on Doctoral supervision in University named Obafemi Awolowo, Ile Ife. Nigeria. A structured 23 questionnaires with four sections was sent to all thirteen Faculties of study in the University to be completed on line. The questionnaires asked about the sociodemographic of the supervisors, opinion about the causes of abandonment of Doctoral programme and attendance of Doctoral training programme among other questions. Data was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Alpha level was set at 0.05 Results revealed that 31individuals responded from nine Faculties with 93.5 % male and 41.9% Professors. 41.9 % reported their supervisee completed within a stipulated period, 16.1% reported some candidates that abandoned the study, while funding (80.6%) and Postgraduates College administrative bottle neck (61.3%) were major reasons for abandonment of the programme. 46. 9% have not had any training on Doctoral supervision and 74.6% are interested in a new training or retraining. Cadre has a significate relationship with each number candidates that completed to time (r=0.538 p< 0.05) and average sessions of completion (r=0.435, p0.05) The study can conclude that though more than average doctoral supervisors have attended one training or the other on Doctoral supervision, almost all supervisors still want more training. Funding and postgraduate administrative bottle neck were major causes of abandonment of Doctoral training on University named Obafemi Awolowo, Ile Ife.
