SciSTIP, CREST, offered a two-day workshop on bibliometrics training on 11 and 12 November 2022. This formed part of our annual Research Week. The workshop was well attended by SciSTIP staff and students, scholars from other Stellenbosch University departments, and scholars from other South African universities. Facilitators from all over the world – CWTS in Leiden, Netherlands, University of Montreal in Montreal, Canada, and UNICAMP in Campinas, Brazil – joined us to gain knowledge and skills from the workshop.
Over the two day training, the following topics were covered:
- Searching for and downloading results from the online versions of Scopus and the Web of Science (led by Nelius Boshoff);
- An introductory SQL training course (offered by Ian van der Linde and Herman Redelinghuys from CREST); and
- An extensive overview and discussion of a range of bibliometric indicators of productivity, collaboration and impact (facilitated by Vincent Larivierre); and
- A working session with UNICAMP to access their new BigGoogle Query facility to access their databases (facilitated by Alysson Mazoni).
