On International Women’s Day, CREST is happy to announce ground breaking work published by Prof Heidi Prozesky from CREST and colleagues, Prof Catherine Beaudry, Carl St-Pierre and Seyed Reza Mirnezami. The study investigated the factors impacting scientific publication in Africa from a gender perspective. The study found women scientists in Africa publish less than their male counterparts and face several factors contributing to this. These include familial and caring responsibilities, unequal access to education, training and collaboration opportunities, institutional barriers and gender stereotypes. Urgent action is needed to address these challenges, including policies and initiatives that support women’s career development, reducing bias and discrimination in the workplace, equal access to resources, and challenging cultural and societal norms.
