Leadership and Impact of the Doctoral Supervision on the Labor Market in Benin
Capstone assignment abstract:

Abstract: Higher education is vital for society and more importantly doctoral graduates. The need of good doctoral supervisors at African Universities in general and Benin Universities in particular is no longer a matter of discussion because it is so obvious in regards to jobless doctors. Despite this high number of doctoral recipients, Benin is still underdeveloped, the challenges increased and the jobless rate skyrocketed. A close analysis reveals that education in general is in crisis and mostly the doctoral project is questioned more and more in regard to the attitude of the recipients in the job market. This paper aims to address this issue from the point of view of the impact of the supervisor on the dissertation relevance in the job market. The methodology used is an empirical approach consisting in collecting data. I started rereading my own experiences as a doctoral student and collecting information from many doctoral students around me across years. As a theory, critical analysis of the situation and solutions are proposed to improve doctoral supervision in order to impact the development of the nation. Findings point out that there is a close relationship between education and labor market and consequently between supervision and labor market. Supervisors impact the doctoral student’s project and the latter influence the labor market. The supervisor in his role has to push the candidates to show how the problem solved will be marketable
