“Public engagement with research” came under the spotlight in a half-day seminar at CREST presented by experts from the University of Aberdeen. Dr Ken Skeldon (middle) presented the university’s innovative engagement strategy and support structures that has brought extensive national and international recognition for their culture and practice of researcher-led public engagement. His colleague Heather Doran (second from left) presented their latest findings on how researchers at leading universities around the world use social media for public engagement. SA Research Chair Prof Peter Weingart (left) and NRF Executive member Dr Beverley Damonse (second from right) engaged with the visiting researchers to gain insights and ideas for South Africa. Marina Joubert, researcher at CREST, organised the event.
