Professor Nelius Boshoff is an Associate Professor in the Centre for Research on Evaluation, Science and Technology (CREST). He is an NRF-rated researcher who specialises in research uptake and the broader impact of research, research collaboration, and bibliometric analysis with a focus on research in Africa. He has a PhD in Science and Technology Studies from Stellenbosch University, on the topic of knowledge utilisation in the South African wine industry. He also holds a master’s degree (Cum Laude) in Research Psychology from the same university.
He regularly participates in various large-scale research projects using both quantitative and qualitative methodology. Past examples include an investigation into the utilisation of research in South Africa, a study towards developing a monitoring and evaluation framework to benchmark the performance of women in the South African innovation system, bibliometric profiles of research at public sector universities, S&T profiles for selected African countries, and statistical profiles of selected social sciences disciplines in South Africa. His most recent work is oriented towards exploring various aspects of research impact in different contexts, both methodologically and conceptually.
Nelius is the author of several peer-reviewed articles in national and international journals and more than 80 research reports and contributions to research reports. He is also the academic co-ordinator of the postgraduate programme in Science and Technology Studies that is offered by CREST.
