Students who are currently enrolled for PhD studies at CREST had an opportunity to present their research to fellow students and the research team at CREST on 18 June 2018. Below is a list of their research topics, with links to their presentations.

  • Nico Elema looks at how research funded via the Water Research Fund for Southern Africa (WARFSA) contributes to knowledge production in the SADC region.
  • For his PhD, Jacques Stofberg is investigating how successful universities in the Western Cape are at commercialising the intellectual property emanating from their research.
  • Agnes Lutomiah focuses her PhD research on the scientific performance of research institutes in Kenya.
  • Corlia Meyer explores how people in South Africa’s Western Cape Province perceive environmental issues.
  • Joseph Maziku is performing a scientometric analysis of the science system in Tanzania.
  • Milandré van Lill is conducting a study of the doctoral pipeline in South Africa, with a view to increasing the efficiency of the higher education system in the country.
  • Isabel Basson investigates whether researchers gain a citation advantage by publishing in open access literature.
  • For her PhD research, Mpho Sefatsa is looking at the scholarly and societal contribution of South African research in the social sciences.
  • Similo Ngwenya focuses on research collaboration in Zimbabwe.
