Professor Jan Botha is professor in the Centre for Research on Evaluation, Science and Technology (CREST) at the University of Stellenbosch. Until July 2014 he was Senior Director for Institutional Research and Planning at the University of Stellenbosch. He is a former president of the Southern African Association for Institutional Research (SAAIR). He served on national higher education policy-making task teams (e.g. the development of a national policy framework for the internationalisation of higher education, the development of the national programme accreditation framework and criteria, and the development of the national qualification standard for the doctoral degree). He is co-editor and co-author of Institutional Research in South African Higher Education. Intersecting Contexts and Practices. (SunMedia, 2016) and Essays on the Uptake, Use and Impact of Research on Higher Education in Southern Africa (SunMedia, forthcoming).
His research interests include higher education policy and planning in South Africa, academic organization, academic authorship, doctoral supervision, and the theory and practice of Institutional Research (IR) in higher education.
