Stellenbosch University MA Clinical Psychology students presented papers in a Couple Therapy Symposium at the 27th Annual Psychological Society of South Africa (PsySSA) Conference, Caesar’s Palace, Johannesburg, 5 October 2023.
Imran Adams (on the left in the photo below) and Zintle Sobekwa (on the right) presented papers in the symposium based on the studies they conducted for the research components of the degree in Clinical Psychology. The symposium titled “Contextualising Couple Therapy in South Africa” was organised and chaired by Prof Elmien Lesch (in the middle of the photo below) and Prof Megan Campbell (Psychology Department, Rhodes University). The symposium provided their students with an opportunity to share their research related to couple interventions. Imran focused on the practice experiences of South African psychologists providing couple therapy, and Zintle Sobekwa (on the right) explored Black Xhosa-speaking married couples’ experiences of family meetings as a marital distress intervention.
