Functional polymers
Functional polymers, polymer-protein conjugates, functional and dynamic hydrogels
Research Fields
Polymer chemistry, reversible deactivation radical polymerization, post-polymerization modification, analytical chemistry
Research Highlights
- Poly(3-methylene-2-pyrrolidone) and derivatives as a new class of polymers
- Poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone)-b-polypeptide as drug carrier
- Poly(styrene-co-maleic acid) in membrane protein isolation
Research Summary
The main focus areas of the Klumperman group is the development of functional polymers that possess specific and carefully designed properties. In many instances, the development of a greater understanding of the polymerization reactions themselves forms an integral part of our research. A large fraction of our projects is aimed at applications in the biomedical field. Poly(styrene-co-maleic anhydride) and poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone) take a central role in the research into hydrogels, polymer bioconjugates, and polymeric prodrugs.
Applications of Research
- Drug delivery
- Membrane protein isolation
- Antimicrobial surfaces
- Kinetic hydrate inhibition
