Chemistry and Polymer Science
This focal area trains graduates in all fundamental aspects of chemistry relevant to all sectors of industry where chemistry or polymer science play a role, whether in manufacturing, sales or research.
Typical modules
1st year: Introductory Inorganic, Physical and Organic Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics
2nd year: Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry
3rd year: Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Polymer Science
Materials Technology
This focal area trains graduates in all fundamental aspects of chemistry and polymer science, and is specifically relevant for careers that focus on the industrial production of materials relevant to the SA industry; or careers in research, focused on technological innovation and materials engineering.

Chemical Biology
This focal area trains graduates in all fundamental aspects of chemistry, and is specifically relevant for careers in biotech (including food production and medicinal chemistry) or research with a biological focus, but from a chemical perspective.
