Advanced separations
Research Fields
Analytical chemistry, chromatography, multidimensional separations, electrophoresis, mass spectrometry, ion mobility spectrometry
Research Highlights
- Comprehensive multidimensional LC method development and applications
- Comprehensive multidimensional GC separations
- Hyphenation to advanced MS and ion mobility spectrometry
Research Summary
The research group focuses on new developments in the field of separation science. Both fundamental studies aimed at improving current technology and applications research are performed in the group. Areas of particular interest include the method optimisation in comprehensive two-dimensional liquid chromatography, multidimensional gas- and liquid chromatographic separations hyphenated to high resolution mass spectrometry, capillary electrophoresis, sample preparation and ion mobility spectrometry. Applications focus mainly on the analysis of volatile and non-volatile constituents of South African natural products such as indigenous teas, with particular emphasis on the analysis of wine and grapes.
Applications of Research
- Analysis of indigenous teas honeybush and rooibos
- Detailed chemical analysis of grapes and wine
- Natural product analysis
Software
MDMO – application for multidimensional method optimisation.
