Cape Town Philharmonic Outreach and Education Programme

The Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra’s Outreach and Education programme of teaching and schools outreach concerts was started in 2003 under the direction of Henriette Weber. By 2015, more than 150 000 learners had been reached.  The Cape Town Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (CPYO) and Cape Town Philharmonic Youth Wind Ensemble (CPYWE) were established and in 2009 the Masidlale grassroots project of strings was begun, with woodwinds later added. The programme now includes an instrument bank, and offers study grants and scholarships to deserving musicians.
