Sihambe Project

The Sihambe initiative is a community outreach program that utilises music education as a means to empower disenfranchised youths within the Stellenbosch area. Karen Jonas, who graduated from the Stellenbosch University with a Bachelors degree in music, founded the initiative in April 2013. Jonas received instruction on the Orff approach to music education and upon entering the field of music education she realised the value of this approach when teaching musically illiterate pupils. The Sihambe initiative, uses the Orff approach and instruments to provide musical instruction to children from the Youth Outreach House in Stellenbosch.
